Giving gifts - one of life's greatest pleasures, or one of life's most trying
exercises, depending upon factors such as whom one is giving a gift to, the
reason for the gift, the amount of time one has to shop, and so on. This
page is designed to help. Before we get started with our list, we ask our readers to remember these simple rules, which we've had posted on our website for years now:
Some of our favorite ideas for gifts are books; perhaps by a favorite author, or perhaps about a favorite subject, or just a beautiful art book. Books and CDs are usually easy to wrap, don't break in shipping, and one size really does fit all. Nor will you ever have to discover that you've just given an Omaha Steak to a vegetarian, a box of Godiva chocolates to someone who just joined Weight Watchers, or a bottle of Chivas Regal to a recovering alcoholic . . .
Of course, if you're in a generous mood, an iPod is also easy to wrap....

Best Wishes from All of Us . . .
And okay, if you really want to know which item in each category D. J. McAdam wants this year: the John McCain book, even though he's a Democrat; the Johnny Cash CD, even though he mainly listens to classical music; and the Senseo Single Serve Coffee Maker, even though he drinks more tea than coffee. Paradoxical at times, isn't he? But such a trend-setter.... He thinks (or hopes) he's getting an iPod for Christmas.
On a serious note, D. J. also wants to remind everyone to remember those less fortunate than ourselves at this time of year. There really is no greater gift one can give than the gift of caring.
Happy Holidays!!!
