I'm always on the lookout for unusual decks of playing cards, which explains how I recently acquired the Maxpedition "Tactical Field Deck." It's an interesting deck, and very reasonably priced - the Maxpedition website offers the deck at $3.99 - but what I find most fascinating about the deck is that it is advertised as being "All Weather" and is made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
Here are the actual specs from the manufacturer:
Product Details
- Tactical field deck of casino quality playing cards
- 52 poker size cards plus 2 Jokers
- Durable 0.31mm PVC construction
- Waterproof material for extreme weather conditions
- Matte surface for low reflectivity
- Add to your pre-deployment checklist
- Great for downtime activities
- Every aspect designed by Maxpedition from ground up to combine our unique aesthetics with traditional playing card features
- Size: 3.5" x 2.5" x 0.75"
Anyone who remembers the old KEM cards will know how difficult it is to find a deck of decent plastic playing cards at any price, which makes this deck seem like quite a bargain. I'm going back and buying a few more decks, while they're still available. These cards would also make great additions to care packages for soldiers stationed overseas.
