So you want to learn to play poker? One of the first things to
consider, then, is that people learn in different ways. As an example,
some persons will get more out of reading a book on poker than they will out of
attending a lecture on poker.
Some - and this is something that I admit is impossible for me - learn things while listening to an instructional CD or audiocassette while driving. I can drive and listen to music at the same time, but if I tried much more than that I'd probably lose my good driver discount.
Most of my poker education has come from books, magazine articles, and experience. But I have recently experimented with the idea of learning poker from a DVD, and so far the experience has been positive. The good part about watching a DVD is that you can actually see what the guy teaching you is talking about; the cards are laying there on the table. And, like a book, you can watch a DVD over and over again. The only downside that I've come up against so far is that I have to more or less schedule watching a DVD, as opposed to picking up a poker book and carrying it with me when I have an appointment at the dentist.
I've listed a number of DVD's below that I think are worthwhile to consider. They are not all strictly instructional, but I do believe that you can learn something about poker from any of them.
